All Black Everything

This is my final journal entry. I have overall enjoyed this process of writing a blog. I think that my idea for the CorkChain has made for a fun project that can actually go places. In all honesty, I thought of this idea because of a friend of mine drunkenly busted into my room one Sunday asking if I had a bottle opener. No worries, this friend was over 21 but I explained that I didn't have one. I then realized I had my keys in my pocket with my bottle opener for such drinks as root beer, classic soda bottles and all drinks that are totally alcohol free. I then thought, what if I can open any bottle, cork or cap, with one device that comfortably fits snug in my pocket. I then elaborated on this idea and decided to make it. I am currently working on a prototype that can actually be used and am actually considering putting this into production. One day, this can be a big idea. I enjoyed writing blogs every week, preferably at almost 11:59 every monday and reading it over at 2am and being like, CRAP, I made a typo and have to go back and correct it. I had a great time doing this and this project taught me how to run and maintain a blog. Blogging has always been fun but I decided to never actually do it. This project forced me to write a blog and it has been a great, enriching experience. Well, thats all for my blog. It was a great time and this is me, Jordan, signing off for the last time. Comments attached at the bottom. Peace team, finally, from IST 195.

Operating Systems

In this segment, I will talk about how operating systems directly affect business. In my business plan, I plan to directly integrate operating systems into the our servers work. For example, I will be mainly using a Mac OS X operating system to manage all storage, files, and databases to track sales, records, and anything else that needs to be kept. The whole issue of stability is a very prevalent issue because without stable servers, there will be no way for data to be stored without being compromised.

Operating systems are the framework for all sorts of data. It is essential that operating systems work to their full potential it is likely that we will be creating our own marketing data and software to use and coding on a Mac is a lot easier because of it's UNIX rock-solid foundation. The OS just works also. All employees should not have to go through the trouble of a non-working operating system and computer troubles just because their employer is too cheap to buy good hardware.

Hardware, software and an operating system are directly related here. For example, without a solid hardware,a solid OS, software cannot be built to utilize a computer. This is relateable to the business because the CorkChain will make live infinitely easier. With simple software and a simple product, everyday life is made simpler.

Review of Hypem.com

In this week's Blog, I would like to look at a blogging site called Hypem.com Hypem stands for the Hype Machine. The Hype Machine in a music blog in which music is posted everyday or so for viewers to listen to. It is one of the highest visited music sites on the web because of the quality of music that they post. They also post a lot of free music that is able to be downloaded to your computer. It is popular for many reasons and I will get into that further into this.

Hypem was invented by Anthony Volodkin, a student at Hunter college in 2005. He wanted a comprehensive music blog that could embed music and be able to legally download it. Music is hard to come by at college because most students aren't able to spend a dollar everytime they want a song and they usually resort to illegal downloads. At college, that is not cool and you will usually get in a lot of trouble for copyright infringement.

The blog is very well laid out and it is very simple. For example, it has songs on the blog and you are able to play and click on every song. Some are free and provide music links while others direct you to itunes or amazon to purchase the song. This is blog is extremely easy to use and I am a huge fan of it. I use it everyday and listen to hot, new music. Hypem is a great resource for the average college student and is beloved by many. That is my entry for this week. Till next week.

Week 7, Bits and Bytes

In this weeks session, we will be talking about Bits and Bytes and how we will use cloud storage in our servers. Bits and Bytes are a very important part of computer storage. It is essential to be able to differentiate between them. Storage is something that companies must have in order to have full out databases and information to be able to track sales. As an enterprise, we will have terabytes of storage to be able to store company data, user logons, and finally, all web traffic.

Where cloud storage comes into this is through online hosting. It will be extremely important that we come up with a solution in case our servers at work crash when we are using them on a local drive. We will create a cloud based server from a remote location that can always be accessed and will not go down in case of an emergency. It is imperative that data is always available at all times throughout business plans. I would really like to capitalize on the idea of cloud storage even though it is in its infancy. It is widely used across most web based sources.

The final part of this entry will revolve around how the storage system will work. We plan to use one mainframe server to manage all of our company computers and most information that is processed. Data that is processed must always be stores and there can be no temporary files because those are deleted after a certain amount of time. Everything must be stored and saves therefore we need large amounts of hard drive space. We will be using terabytes of storage to run daily operations. Anyway, that is all for this week, short and sweet. till next time.

Week 6 Input and Output/Communications

In this weeks edition of my blog, I am beyond upset that the Yankees just lost so this will be quick, concise, and to the point. The CorkChain's computer systems are essential based on input and output. Input is the data that is put into a computer and output is the data that is that is put out. Pretty much, you put things in, use them, and get information out of it.

There is also the idea of how we will communicate with our devices. We plan tracking our business using RFID and using NFC to accept payments. We will closely incorporate the use of Bluetooth and try to do everything wirelessly throughout the office. This not only gets rid of clutter, it also increases efficiency in the office.

Finally, we plan to make our business global. It is of the utmost importance that data and systems are stored properly, safely, securely. With the proper input devices, output will be greater and it will be easier to accept payments and to make money. I believe that this idea is good and it will benefit in the long run if this entrepreneurial idea actually becomes legitimate. That is all for tonight. Goodnight and hope you enjoyed this post. (Edited at 1 AM, ahh, I accidentally deleted half my post when re-reading it)

Week 5 Hardware

This week in IST 195, we discussed computer hardware. The CorkChain will be run based on servers through a central location. It is of the utmost importance to have computers that are up to date and running fast. There is no point in going cheap and having hardware that will eventually fail within a few years. I would like to get to specifics on what we will be using. We will be running on Apple Mac OSX Server machines. They are easy to set up, easy to link across networks, and overall have an ease of use. Not the mention how ascetically pleasing they look.

The use of Mac Server will integrate all of our systems and make life more convenient for employees. Using a mac, we will be able to track sales records, inventory, stock, and order status. Makes and models are also important. We will not be investing in small Mac Mini's. We will be using a Mac Pro as our main server and have every employee working on an iMac with a Macbook Pro for use when traveling or when at home. It is also necessary to talk about internals. We will be using solid state drives because they are fast and reliable. We will be using Ultra DDR3 Ram because of speed and only the newest Sandy Bridge Intel Core i7 Processors.

Finally, I would like to talk about the human interaction with technology. We will also be setting up a costumer support line with access directly integrated into the computers. For example, all employee help lines will be linked into to google voice and there will be a Skype integration account. In this day and age, it is absolutely imperative that all businesses run on technology. With proper servers and systems, this is a feasible plan. It can be a total success if all comes together and runs properly. Anyway, that is it for this blog. I'll be back next week. I like how the CorkChain is coming along and am considering actually taking the idea and making it a reality.

Week 4 Security, Privacy, and Excel

In the past week of IST 195, we learned about Social Networking Security, Privacy, and how to make excel sheets. The Corkchain will have fan pages on facebook and a twitter page. It is necessary to get the word out about it. The main issue will be privacy and security. Since we will only be a fan page, security will not be the biggest of issues but when we eventually roll out the product and create a site that would have to be secure. We would most likely make our site public because we would like to sell as many units as possible in the soonest time.

The marketing aspect to the CorkChain will have to be done through Microsoft Excel. We will need to graph our sales, projections, and our assets. It is of utmost importance that we keep track of all finances because if not, it can be EXTREMELY detrimental to our company. We would have inaccurate tax statements and we could possibly be audited if there isn't some order to the finances. I believe that computers are essential to have in any business and good use should be made of them.

In an overall sense, Security, Privacy, and Spreadsheets can be the essentials to success in a work environment. It is important that everything works flawlessly so business that run as usual. It is important that a business is secure. It is also important that a business is well run. My idea is for a safe, well run, hands on environment. I like the casual work environment and would like run a casual yet productive business. That's all for this week. Check in next time on my entrepreneurial idea. goodnight.
